1.Dr Victoria Kisyombe: Taking The Lead

Dr Victoria Kisyombe was not afraid to take the lead when she founded Selfina where she was a pioneer of micro-credit in Tanzania through micro-leasing with particular attention to widows and young girls. The social position of women in Tanzania compelled Dr Kisyombe to start a foundation that empowers women to become more independent and support their livelihoods. Today Selfina leases items and equipment to help them start and run businesses, including; farm equipment, office equipment, catering kit to livestock water pumps, sewing machines, milling machines, oil extraction machines, and bicycles.The foundation has provided 25,000 leases to Tanzanian women and USD $22 million in credit, resulting in positively impacting the lives of more than 440,000 people and helping over 200,000 Tanzanians break out of poverty. Through her organisation, Selfina, Dr Kisyombe has played a huge role in women’s entrepreneurship in Tanzania pushing her efforts into the limelight and earning her global recognition by the World Economic Forum and the World Bank.

 2. Susan Mashibe: Breaking The Glass Ceiling
Susan Mashibe heads a company that offers logistical support to private companies, diplomats and individuals. VIA Aviation was started in 2003 and has grown exponentially over the years to build a client portfolio that ranges from Heads of State, monarchs to celebrities and corporate gurus. Susan is quite exceptional in the aviation field with numerous awards and recognition to show for it, including recognition at the Young Global Leader by World Economic Forum in 2011. Susan broke the ceiling when she became the first female in Tanzania to become a FAA certified commercial pilot. She now strives to promote maths and science in schools, especially among female students.

3.Flaviana Matata: Empowering Young Women

Not only is Flaviana Matata, a fashion model and entrepreneur, she is also a true philanthropist and a champion for social change. The Flaviana Matata Foundation (FMF) empowers young, orphaned girls in Tanzania through education, training, and microfinance projects to improve their lives. The Foundation has provided school supplies to over 3,000 girls in Tanzania. Some of the projects ran by the foundation include; Education Sponsorship for Young Girls, Students Latrines Project and Binti Boxes (Sanitary) Donation. These projects are all geared to ease the lives of the students so that they can receive education with fewer hurdles

4.Hellen Dausen: Turning Passion Into Profit

“I have had a passion for skincare care long before I knew how important it was to take care of my skin” Hellen Dausen mentions on her blog. The former beauty queen built her skincare and beauty business in Zanzibar where she nurtured her brand, Nuya’s Essence. The brand’s products are made from Botanical oils, butter, herbs and spices making them less harmful than other products that contain harsh chemical ingredients. The brand is now internationally recognised earning her a spot on the 2016 Forbes Africa 30 under 30.

5.Jennifer Bash: Supporting local Farmers

After noticing the gap between local farmers and suppliers, Jennifer Bash started Alaska Tanzania a brand that helps farmers add value to their produce so that they can sell their products to supermarkets and compete internationally. When she noticed that most of the food products in supermarkets were imported, she discovered an opportunity. Jennifer decided to start a company that would help these farmers package and brand their products well to make them more competitive and preferred by suppliers. Today, Alaska Tanzania has managed to have its products in most East African supermarkets. This has helped local farmers increase their profits and expand their customer reach by selling their products at international market prices.
